C&P

The two girls were inspired by Bhai's GM diet. Not the diet per se  but the fact that he had lost 4 kgs in 7 days. So Leela goes home, checks all about the GM plan and starts it from the very next day. Talk of speed! Now Richa & Leela are the Thomson & Thompson duo. What one does, the other invariably follows. So Richa plunged into action, in toe with spouse, Vineet, who is a great one for healthy eating. Day 1- only fruit. It passed like a breeze. The weighing machine would be the most coveted possession of both the homes that week.
While Richa had an enthusiastic consort in Vineet, Leela's husband Dhiri had supportively told her, tumhe jo karna hai karo, mere ko nahi karna. That made it a tad uphill for Leela. Now she had to buy her own kinda food and carry on with the regular cooking for her man. That they have a two year old hyper-active Angel made it all the more adventurous. The fashion-conscious in her refused to be cowed and on she marched, the lone crusader, jodi tor daak shune keo na aashe tobey ekla cholo re ringing in her ears.
Day 2- only vegetables. The day passed. Tring tring. Leela calling. 'Ho gaya mera GM khatam. Hum 3 and a half aloo parantha kha liye Dhiri ke saath!' Richa had shed 100 gms in 2 days unlike what the plan claims. That the maximum loss happens on the first two days. Her motivation level was anyway running low, and now this call! Vineet comes home tired from work. Dreading the vegetable bowl he'll be handed. 'Yaar ye karna zaroori hai? Phir vegetables pakda doge tum mujhe' is the beaten warrior's welcome note. Richa rises like the phoenix. 'Kya khana hai?' 'Yaar aloo parathe bana le.' We're giving you a story for your blog, they chirped when we met the day before.
I was making Cabbage n Peas that day. The type we make with the khichudi bhog for Saraswati Puja. Never thought so highly of it all these years. What does staying away from home and running your own do to you....
                                                                                                    Ingredient: [serves 3-4]
1. 1 small cabbage- chopped
2. 2 medium potatoes- cubed
3. 1/2 cup green peas
4. 1/2 tsp ginger paste
5. 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
6. 2-3 bay leaves
7. 2-3 dry red chillies
8. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
9. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
10. 1/2 tsp ghee
11. Salt to taste
12. 1 tbsp oil to cook
                                                                                                                                                Method:
1. Allow cumin seeds, bay leaves & dry red chillies to crackle in hot oil.
2. Add turmeric & salt and saute the potatoes for 5 mins on high flame.
3. Add the chopped cabbage, reduce flame to medium, mix ingredients together and let cook for 10 minutes.
Cover the wok. The salt enables the cabbage to leave water and cook in its own juice.

4. Add the green peas with the cabbage OR after it has cooked for a while. Cover the wok and let vegetable cook till done.

5. When the cabbage & potatoes are tender and water has dried, add ghee & garam masala powder, stir for 4-5 minutes and remove from flame.

Served hot with chapatti/parantha/rice & dal/khichdi, Cabbage with Peas tastes equally delectable.

Happy trip to Scotland, gurlz! Get me some more stories from there :)
